(CBT) and GATE 2016 pattern are totally changed. The Question Paper Structure,
Marks distribution is common for CS, EE, ECE, ME, CSE, CH papers has been

Total Numbers of
Question: 65
Total Marks of GATE Exam 2016: 100
Total Duration: 3 hours
General Aptitude (GA): 10 questions of 15 Marks
Engineering Mathematics: 15 Marks
Technical Questions (subject of the paper): 70 Marks

GATE 2015 exam
pattern now will have two different types of questions:

Multiple
Choice Questions (MCQ):
There will b e1 or 2 marks for each multiple choice
questions. There will four options for
each question for each
·
Numerical
Answer Questions:
There will be also 1 or 2 marks question in this section.
For such questions the answer is a real number, to be entered by the candidate
using the virtual keypad. There will be no choice given for these kinds of questions.
These questions are
structured to acknowledge the aspirants following abilities.
Recall:
These are based on facts, principles, formulae or laws of
the discipline of the paper. Aspirants are supposed to obtain the answer from its
memory of the subject or at most from a one-line computation.
Comprehension:
These questions will test the aspirant’s basic
knowledge and understanding to get a simple conclusion from fundamental ideas.
Application:
In this type of questions aspirants are required to get on a
conclusion based on knowledge either through computation or by logical
reasoning.
Analysis and
synthesis:
Aspirants will present with data, diagrams, images etc. in
which they require analysis before a question can be answered. A synthesis
question will test the aspirant’s comparison between two answers.
Marking scheme of
GATE 2016 Exam question paper:
·
For 1-mark for multiple-choice
questions and there will be negative marking of 1/3 marks for every
wrong answer
·
For 2-marks multiple-choice questions
there will be negative marking of 2/3 marks for every wrong answer.
·
For Numerical answer type questions there will
be No Negative Marking.
·
There will be No marks and no negative marking
for not attempting any questions.
·
Sectional cut-off (Technical/Non-Technical like
Engineering mathematics & General Aptitude) are not applied in GATE exam.
Examination
Mode:
There will be online examination for all 22 papers by
Computer Based Test (CBT).
NOTE :
Aspirants are allowed to use calculator.
The use of charts, graph sheet or Tables is not allowed in
the examination hall.
