Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Scheme

The Government has announced a new scheme (Yojana) named as Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Yojana. The aim of this is to make quality drugs available at affordable prices. Under the new Jan Aushadhi Yojana, about 500 medicines will be made available at affordable prices.


Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Scheme (Public Medicine Scheme) is a direct market intervention scheme of the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers {not health ministry}.


Its aim is to make available quality generic medicines to all at affordable prices through Jan Aushadhi Store (JAS) opened in each district of the states. It was first launched in 2008 to provide quality medicines at affordable prices to the economically weaker sections of the society. The first JAS was opened at Amritsar Civil Hospital in 2008.




Highlight of  Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Yojana

·         To make available low priced quality medicines for all – thereby reducing the unit cost of treatment per person, more specifically for persons suffering from chronic ailments.

·         To create demand for generic medicine and encourage doctors especially in the government hospitals to prescribe generic medicines to their patients.

·         To create awareness among people about the efficacy of the generic drugs.


Bureau of Pharma PSUs of India (BPPI)

Bureau of Pharma PSUs of India (BPPI) is the implementing agency. It was established in 2008 and comes under the Department of Pharmaceuticals with the support of all the Pharma CPSUs such as:

·         Indian Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Limited (IDPL)

·         Rajasthan Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Limited (RDPL)

·         Karnataka Antibiotics and Pharmaceuticals Limited (KAPL)

·         Bengal Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals Limited (BCPL)

Who can open Jan Aushadhi stores

·   Any NGO/Institution /Cooperative Society recognized by the state governments and free space provided in the premise of Government District Hospitals
.
·      Any NGO/ Society/ Institution or also include Self health group having experience of operation in welfare activities for 3 years with space and financial capacity.

·      Any individual including self- employed or unemployed pharmacist / medical practitioner with the space and financial capacity.How Many Medicines are Covered  Under This Scheme


How To Open A Jan Aushadhi Yojana Center

·         If you are a licensed pharmacist or a medical practitioner who is looking forward to opening the JAN AUSHADHI YOJANA CENTER and helping the needy with generic medicines at less than 20-30 % of their brand rates then you can fill in the tender online.

·         Visit the site janaushadhi.gov.in

·         Open the section Opening Of Jas- Guidelines

·         Select the type of institution/ societ/ individual JAS center that you look forward to open the center.

·         Read all the guidelines carefully and fill in the tender if you oblige to all the terms and conditions.
