Paper VIII – Optional Subject – Paper I – 250 Marks

Candidates may choose any ONE optional subject from amongst the list of subjects.

Exam Pattern of UPSC
The Exam pattern of UPSC consists of two paper that is-
- Prelims Examination
- Mains Examination
UPSC Prelims Exam Pattern–
Number of marks – 400 marks this is divided into two papers 200 marks each
Type of Questions- Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ)
Exam Duration- Two Hours (120 Minutes)
The question papers will be both in Hindi and English language. But questions related to English Language or Comprehension questions would be given in English only.
Mains Exam Pattern–
After qualifying the Prelims exam candidate can appear in the main exam.
Main Exam is consisting of 9 papers with grand total of 2075 Marks.
Paper-1 consists of easy writing with 250 Marks.
Paper-2 consist of General Studies-1 (Indian Heritage and Culture, Geography and Society of World) having 250 Marks.
Paper-3 consist of General Studies-2 (Governance, Policies and International relations) having 250 Marks.
Paper-4 consist of General Studies-3 (Technology, Economic Development, Bio-diversity, Environment, Security and Disaster Management) having 250 Marks.
Paper-5 consists of General Studies-4 (Ethics, Integrity and Aptitude) with 250 marks.
Paper-6 consists of Optional Subject-Paper I with of 250 Marks.
Paper-7 consists of Optional Subject-Paper II with 250 Marks.
Paper-8 consists of Indian languages with 250 marks.
Personality Test (Interview) 275 Marks
Essential Qualification:
Candidates should hold a bachelor degree with 50% minimum marks with certified University
Age Limit:
- Minimum- 21 years
- Maximum- 32 years
Relaxation (in Upper age limit):
- For SC/ST candidates- 5 years
- For OBC candidates- 3 years
- Physically Disabled Candidates- 10 years
Examination Fee:
- For General Candidates- Rs. 50/- (Rupees fifty only)
