In a major relief to lakhs of Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) beneficiaries, the govt. has decided to do away with the offline registration process for registration/renewal of the health cards.

According to the executive source, Health Ministry has decided to make registration procedure easier for its beneficiaries by introducing the online mechanism to a certain amount than submitting documents at the counters meant for the registration process. Beneficiaries would be allowed to pay their fee through net banking, credit cards, payment wallets, etc.
There would be nominal inspect charges ranging from Rs 15-Rs 20 for availing the online services," the source said, adding that the online services would also be available for offering documents related to compensation claims. Given that mainly beneficiaries are computer well-read, they have to just upload their duly filled form with supporting credentials.
Central Government Health Scheme officials would ask the beneficiary to make payments after authenticate their documents. In case of damaged document submission, the concerned beneficiary would submit the misplaced papers again, adding that it would take an only few days to get the process done, at the same time would be completed in few hours.

- Earlier, the Centre had relaxed the norm that authorized a CGHS cardholder to take the prior union to undergo treatment in any impaneled private hospital.
- According to the change procedure for treatment, beneficiaries are now permitted to undergo treatment at private hospitals impaneled under the CGHS of exact conduct procedure listed under CGHS rate list without any permission letter.
