1. Indian Army decomissions two artillery systems
The Indian Army has decomissioned two of its longest-serving artillery systems namely 160mm Tampella Mortars at Mahajan Field Firing Ranges and the 130mm Self Propelled M-46 Catapult Guns.
2. Election Commission Announces By-Poll
On March 16, 2021, the Election Commission has announced the schedule of the By-Poll elections to the 14 Assembly constituents and 2 Lok Sabha Parliamentary Constituents namely Belgaum Constituency in Karnataka and Tirupati Constituency in Andhra Pradesh. The elections will be held on 17 April 2021.
3. Moderna company starts Covid-19 vaccine on children
Moderna, an American pharmaceutical company started the vaccination of children and infants between the ages of 6 months and12 months. The trial is called 'KidCOVE' study.
4. Medical Termination of Pregnancy Bill was changed from 20 weeks to 24 weeks by voice vote
On March 17, 2021, Lok Sabha passed the Bill which was already approved by the Rajya Sabha on March 16, 2021. It ensures safe and secure enviornment for women to have access to legal services.
5. Second-wave of coronavirus
On March 17, 2021, PM Modi held a meeting with all the CMs to discuss the need of increasing safety health measures to prevent second wave of coronavirus.
6. Highest Peak of cases in a single day, 17 March 2021
On March 17, the Union Health Minister informed that India has reported 28,903 new cases, 188 deaths and 17,741 recoveries in the last 24 hours which is said to be the highest peak in a single day for 2021.
