Teacher Eligibility Test (TET)
Teacher Eligibility Test well known for TET was first held in the year 2011. This is the entry level exam. On the basis of this test, the government selects eligible individuals to appoint then as a government teacher for the class 1 to 8. The TET is conducted all over India with various names as per their state like UPTET (Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test), KTET (Karnataka Teacher Eligibility Test) etc.

TET Syllabus:
The TET Syllabus is divided into two paper that is paper I & II.

Paper I Syllabus:
Child Development and Pedagogy-
  • The concept of development and its relationship with learning

NET (National Eligibility Test):
NET stands for National Eligibility Test; this test is conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on behalf of University Grant Commission (UGC). Through this test eligibility of the candidates is determined for the college/university level lectureship. The NET is further divided into two parts that are NET CSIR and NET UGC. Though NET CSIR, eligibility for science side student will be determined whereas through NET UGC eligibility for the art side student will be determined.

Syllabus for NET UGC:

  1. Paper I:-It will cover basic principles which will assess the teaching/ research aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily test the candidates' reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness.
  2. Paper II- It will consist of 50 questions based on the subject of study chosen by the candidate. Each question will carry 2 marks.
  3. Paper III- This paper shall consist of 75 objective type questions based again on the subject selected by the candidate. Each question will carry 2 marks.

SLET (State Level Eligibility Test or State Eligibility Test)
In India, every state conducts its own test which is well known for State Level Eligibility Test (SLET) for lectureship only. Though this test, eligibility of the candidates is determined to apply for the post of lecturer within the jurisdiction of the Member-States of this SLET Commission.
In order to appear in this test candidates must be passed their post graduation with minimum 55% marks. However, there is the relaxation of 5% marks for SC/ST candidates I.e. SC/ST aspirants must have at least 50% in their post-graduation.

PGT (Post Graduate Teacher):
PGT stands for Post Graduate Teachers, every state conducts this exam. As the name indicates this test is conducted for the selection of eligible individuals as Post-Graduate Teacher.  In order to apply Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) candidates must complete their graduation from recognized university/Institute. B.ed (Bachelor of Education):
B.ed stands for Bachelor in Education earlier it was known as Bachelor of Training (BT). It is a course offered for those who are interested in pursuing & career in teaching and related fields. Bachelor of Education Course can also be pursued through Correspondence or Distance Learning which is generally of 2 Years duration. Earlier this course is of 1 year.
In this course students from Arts Stream are trained to teach subjects like History, Civics, Geography and Languages whereas, the students of Science Stream are trained to teach Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. The B.Ed. the degree course is mandatory for teaching in higher primary schools and high schools.
